Experts have issued grave warnings that Hezbollah may be poised to launch a major assault on Israel following a decade of meticulous planning and the development of an extensive tunnel network.
Analysts monitoring Hezbollah’s activities in southern Lebanon have suggested that the scale of a potential attack could dwarf the October 7 incident, turning it into a relatively minor event in comparison.
Hezbollah’s tunnel network serves various functions, including facilitating military operations, smuggling and storing weapons. Recent footage released by the group has provided unsettling glimpses into this subterranean infrastructure, showing missile launch sites within the tunnels. Lieutenant Colonel Sarit Zehavi, a former Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) intelligence analyst with decades of experience studying Hezbollah, has expressed concerns about the unprecedented risk posed by the group.
She highlighted that Hezbollah’s firepower is roughly ten times greater than that of Hamas, with a total military force of around 50,000 personnel, including up to 5,000 elite troops ready to cross into Israel.
The group’s tunnel network is extensive, with some tunnels large enough to accommodate trucks, complete with electricity and air conditioning.
Hezbollah’s arsenal includes over 200,000 rockets, guided missiles and drones, which may be sufficient to overwhelm Israel’s Iron Dome and David’s Sling air defense systems.
Zehavi warned that once an attack begins, it could continue for months and might involve coordinated actions from Iran, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Gaza and the West Bank, suggesting a broad, multi-front campaign against Israel.
Her extensive research, including the analysis of distressing footage, indicates that Hezbollah has been preparing for an October 7-style assault in the north for years.
The plans include detailed strategies for hostage-taking, terrorizing civilians and seizing and holding territory, particularly in the northern Galilee region.
The Radwan Force, Hezbollah’s most elite unit, is expected to spearhead any invasion.
Formed after Hezbollah’s last conflict with Israel in 2006 and trained by Iran, the Radwan Force is highly specialized. Its members have undergone rigorous training in hand-to-hand combat, sniper shooting, anti-tank warfare, bomb-making and drone operations.
Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ “Sabeerin” commando unit instructors have also played a significant role in their training.
The assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, a prominent Hamas leader and subsequent retaliatory actions by Hezbollah have heightened fears of a larger regional conflict.
On August 3, Hezbollah fired approximately 30 rockets from Lebanon toward northern Israel’s Galilee region. Israel’s Iron Dome Defense system intercepted most of the missiles and no casualties were reported.
Hezbollah has recently showcased its hidden terror tunnel network in a chilling video, revealing vast underground corridors capable of housing large weapons shipments.
The footage features heavily armed militants navigating the tunnels, with trucks transporting enormous missiles. The video also shows the tunnel network’s extensive layout, including military technology and computer systems.
The narrator ominously declares that the resistance now has precision-guided and non-guided missiles ready, implying that any war with Hezbollah will be far more severe than anticipated.
In response, the U.K., the U.S. and France have advised their citizens to evacuate Lebanon as fears of a broader regional conflict continue to mount.
Hezbollah’s capabilities and plans pose a significant challenge to Israeli security, with the potential for a devastating conflict extending across the region.
