Israel reportedly rescued four of its hostages from Nuseirat in central Gaza over the weekend, but in the process killed 200 Palestinians as collateral damage.
According to reports, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a joint land, sea and air attack as part of the mission. Israeli jets were seen dropping bombs in order to target “terror infrastructure.”
A few hours later, the IDF announced that a team of police and military commandos were able to capture and return home four hostages who were being held in Hamas captivity at the camp.
Not long after the hostages were returned to Israel, reports started to emerge about the massive Palestinian death toll from the mission. Gaza’s health ministry reported “large numbers” of wounded people, most of them women and children, who were sent to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital for treatment.
All across social media were associated videos showing dead bodies strewn across the streets, many of them visibly missing limbs and other bodies parts – and small children were among them.
In total, the Gaza Government Media reported that 210 people were killed in the attack, though it remains unknown how many of them were actually Hamas militants since all deaths, Hamas or otherwise, in Gaza are calculated together.
An Israeli counterterrorism officer also became fatally wounded during the rescue mission. A police statement indicated that he died not long after the team returned to Israel.
(Related: Israel also struck a UN school in central Gaza, killing at least 40 people, most of them children.)
Responding to the attack, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas issued a statement of condemnation, calling it a “bloody massacre.” He also called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Josep Borrell described the scenes he saw of the attack as “appalling” and urged Israel to accept a ceasefire plan put together by President Biden last week.
During its October 7 attack, Hamas reportedly captured about 250 Israeli hostages, these four representing a mere fraction of the overall number that are still in captivity.
Half of that 250 were traded for Palestinian prisoners during the week-long ceasefire agreement from last November, while another seven were rescued by Israeli forces after that.
There are said to be about 120 Israeli hostages still being held by Hamas, according to IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari.
Since the start of the war, more than 36,800 Palestinians have been killed by IDF, along with another 84,000 who were injured, this according to the latest figures from the Gaza Health Ministry.
“The only way for this to stop would be for the people of the world to unite and stop buying U.S. and Israeli goods,” one commenter wrote about the war. “But that ain’t never going to happen because the average person has no discipline, no moral compass, and is only interested in the latest photos of themselves they posted to social media.”
“The world is a sad and degenerate place … we may all wear the latest fashions and own the latest accessories. We play at being intelligent beings. But scratch the surface and you find a vicious, primitive animal that only cares about food, domination and sex if they’re still capable. Everyone knows this … every other creature on the planet sure knows this.”
Another wrote that this whole situation is “very, very, very shocking and evil” no matter how you slice it.
Israel under Benjamin Netanyahu is committed to finishing its mission in Gaza, no matter what the outside world says about it or how many innocent civilians die. Find out more at Prophecy.news.
